Michael McCullers to Write FATHER KNOWS BEST
New Regency has a draft or two in the vault for a feature comedy based on the 1950s radio/television series Father Knows Best. 24 Frames reports the studio will bring on writer/director Michael McCullers (Baby Mama) to update the screenplay and direct the remake. Intitial reports described the approach as “a multi-generational story about a father of a suburban family with a modern parenting approach who’s thrown for a loop when his own father, with a different attitude, comes to live with them.” McCullers is a logical choice after demonstrating a penchant for parenting dynamics and Odd Couple comedy with Baby Mama. McCullers is also credited on the Austin Powers sequels — maybe he wrote the scenes between Dr. Evil and Scott?
Father Knows Best started as a radio show about a wholesome Midwestern family that ran from 1949-1954. The sitcom followed and produced 203 episodes from 1954-1960. Watch the full episode “Typical Father” after the break.
Here’s a synopsis:
[Father Knows Best] was set in the typical Midwestern community of Springfield, where Jim Anderson was an agent for the General Insurance Company. Every evening he would come home from work, take off his sport jacket, put on his comfortable sweater, and deal with the everyday problems of a growing family. In contrast to most other family comedies of the period, in which one of the other parents was a blundering idiot, both Jim and his wife Margaret were portrayed as thoughtful, responsible adults. When a family crisis arose, Jim would clam the waters with a warm smile and some sensible advice. [TV.com]

'Wonder Woman' to Have Three Different Costumes
Wonder Woman will have not only one, but three costumes to wear while in action. When filming the pilot in March, Adrianne Palicki was snapped wearing an attire which is less shiny than the one she dons in an official picture from the NBC project.
Now, the network's president Robert Greenblatt has cleared up swirling report that Wonder Woman's costume is changed. He tells TVLine the new one is a second outfit from Diana Prince's closet. "We haven't made any changes from what was planned," he claims.
Moreover, there is a third look kept in store which will be more similar to the one in the 1974 series. "There was an initial outcry about the long pants - you know, skintight pants as opposed to those little shorts [worn by Lynda Carter in the original TV series]," Greenblatt elaborates. "But the shorts were always planned. They are actually used in the final confrontation when she beats Veronica Cale."
Responding to people's criticisms to the upcoming pilot when an early draft of David E. Kelley was leaked in February, Greenblatt says, "There's always critiques of everything. If we listen to all of that, we would probably never be able to get the job done." He, however, adds, "But it's always good to hear the feedback. I'd rather have people really passionately engaged in conversation, even if they hate something, than be kind of bored."
Greenblatt additionally gushes that Kelley's work on the pilot is good, saying "David's a great writer... and I actually think he'll bring an intelligence to [the show] that other ... writers might not. I think it's going to be interesting to see it cut together."
Joining Palicki in the cast ensemble is Elizabeth Hurley who will portray the villain, Veronica Cale. Justin Bruening, meanwhile, is cast as Steve Trevor aka the primary love interest of Wonder Woman/Diana Price.

'American Idol' Exec Producer Says Pia Toscano's Elimination Is Not That Shocking
Nigel Lythgoe said nothing is wrong with Pia Toscano being eliminated from "American Idol" on April 7. Contrary to what most people believe, the executive producer of the singing competition thought the result was not that shocking because Pia was never close to the champion title.
"Number one, I know the results so I know she was never a frontrunner," Nigel said at the callback auditions for his other show "So You Think You Can Dance" in Las Vegas on April 8. He quickly added that he "was pretty upset" and "angry" upon learning that Pia was eliminated, "but the more I've sort of thought about it, the more I've calmed down, I've realized that at the end of the day, this is going to happen every week now because the talent is so strong."
Nigel further elaborated why Pia was kicked out of the show, "The fact of the matter is that it appears that Pia didn't connect with the audience as much as we maybe think she did. And she wasn't voted through. That's the fact of the matter." On why people did not take the elimination easily, he explained, "It appears that it's this huge drop because [Pia] has never been in the bottom three before, but neither was Casey [Abrams], neither was Paul [McDonald] last week. So every week it's going to happen that a really good singer goes."
On the same occasion, Nigel also defended judges' decision to use The Save for Casey two weeks before. "I agree with the judges saving Casey. I think Casey is unique, and really good for 'Idol', and doesn't just give us the same old singer every time; he gives us something totally different. I'm all for that," he stated.
Pia Toscano was dumped from "American Idol" during the live result show that revealed who were going to enter the top 8. The elimination of one of the best contestants quickly triggered comments from celebrities who watched the show like "Idol" alums Jennifer Hudson and Kimberly Caldwell.
She was recently reported to have signed to Interscope Records, but her representative has denied it, saying that no deal has been sealed as of now. The Texan native has said she is "looking forward" to the upcoming "Idol" tour.

Video: Sofia Vergara Teaches Elmo Spanish on 'Sesame Street'
Lucky Elmo gets to learn some Spanish from a beautiful teacher. Sofia Vergara became the latest "Modern Family" star to appear on "Sesame Street" to teach the kids how to pronounce some words. In a funny twist, Elmo critiques the star's appearance on his show and tries to break into primetime.
In the past, Vergara's co-stars such as Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen and Jesse Tyler Ferguson have all assisted the show to educate children. Vergara, who was born in Colombia, shot her cameo on Friday, April 8 but there is still no clue when the full version will air.
On another "Sesame" news, the United States is donating $20 million to Pakistan in order to fund a local version of the show. Set to air later this year, the Pakistan version would switch the original New York set with a Pakistani village and feature Rani, a six-year-old female Muppet with pigtails and a blue-and-white school uniform, who will speak in Urdu.
Trailer for MONTE CARLO
The first trailer for the romantic comedy Monte Carlo has hit the web. The film stars Leighton Meester, Selena Gomez, Katie Cassidy, Cory Monteith, Andie MacDowell and Brett Cullen. Co-written and directed by Tom Bezucha (The Family Stone), the flick tells the story of three young American girls who take a trip to Paris and, after the trip turning into a disaster, one of the girls gets mistaken for a British heiress and the three are wrapped up in a “hilarious” whirlwind of celebrity. The trailer looks like the film was tailor-made for the tween crowd, who I’m sure will love the flick. The similarities to a Disney Channel Original Movie are striking, and I had to double check to make sure the film was actually coming out in theaters and I wasn’t just watching a preview for a TV movie.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Monte Carlo hits theaters July 1st.
Russell Brand Talks ARTHUR, Karaoke and the Future of Infant Sorrow in Our Video Interview
With director Jason Winer’s (Modern Family) Arthur opening this weekend, I was able to interview the cast as a reporter for our partners at Omelete. As most of you know, the film is a remake of the 1981 Dudley Moore comedy and stars Russell Brand as a wealthy playboy who risks losing his inheritance when he falls for a woman (Greta Gerwig) that his family doesn’t approve of. The movie also stars Helen Mirren, Jennifer Garner, Luis Guzman and Nick Nolte. For more on the film, click here for seven clips and the full synopsis.
Since I interviewed Brand for Hop less than a week before this interview, I wanted to have some fun with my questions. Thankfully, Brand is the type of person that whatever you ask, he’ll have a clever response. We talked about how he sees me more than his mom, what’s his karaoke song (he has a great answer), what’s the future of Infant Sorrow (his band in Get Him to the Greek), since he was an executive producer was the main star difficult to work with, and did he really make Arthur just to be tucked into bed by Helen Mirren. Hit the jump to watch.

STAR TREK Television Series Hits Netflix Instant in July
Back in February we told you about a new two-year deal between CBS and Netflix to stream a whole slew of old shows from the network including Twin Peaks and Star Trek. While some shows have started to make their way into the “Watch Instantly” library, Star Trek hasn’t yet been included. That all changes this summer as Trek Movie recently contacted Netflix to find out when the TV series might end up online. They learned the original Star Trek series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise start streaming on July 1st. But Star Trek: Deep Space Nine won’t be available until October 1st. Though you’ll have to wait a few months, Trekkies everywhere should be happy they can enjoy all the Star Trek series on their preferred Netflix streaming device for at least the next two years.
