Like Madonna before her, Lada Gaga is really, really good at pissing people off. Her latest angry opponent: the Catholic Church.
The issue at hand: Gaga's newest music video -- which hasn't even been released yet -- apparently makes a jab or two toward coveted religious figures like Mary Magdalene. The Catholic Church is upset, but so are Latino Groups (that are Catholic).
Jorge Serrano, of the civil rights group Take Back Aztlá, had this to say about the video: "She falls in love with a Black Jesus," and "is just exploiting the Catholic religion, which many Latinos follow."
We've seen our fair share of Black God's over the years -- Morgan Freeman in Bruce All-Mighty springs to mind -- but apparently a Black Jesus is too much.
Is Gaga more controversial than Madonna? Did she cross the line this time?
Looks like Lady Gaga has one more high-profile fan in Dolly Parton. The country music legend revealed at the GLAAD Awards on Sunday that she loved the country re-mix of Gaga's "Born This Way" and would be keen to work with her if the opportunity presents itself.
"I love her," she told E!. "Maybe we should do something together—GooGoo and Gaga! You know those GooGoo candy bars in Nashville? I could be Lady GooGoo."
No word from the Gaga camp yet, but this would be a pretty epic mash-up. Maybe the pre-eminent pop star of our time can call up Dolly when she realizes this summer that she's going to need something big to top that "Telephone" video -- and there's nothing bigger than Dolly Parton's... hair.
Parton also says she identifies with Gaga's message of individuality.
"I really do think that I stand for being proud of who you are and not worrying a lick about what other people think, really," she added. "I feel fortunate that I've never had to be anything other than myself."
Lady Gaga is sporting some extra bones in her forehead, cheekbones and shoulders these days, but that doesn't mean she's buying into cosmetic surgery anytime soon. The pop singer may bleach her hair until it falls out, but she flatly rejects plastic surgery.
"I have never had plastic surgery, and there are many pop singers who have," Gaga explained in a recent interview withHarper's Bazaar. "I think that promoting insecurity in the form of plastic surgery is infinitely more harmful than an artistic expression related to body modification."
"And how many models and actresses do you see on magazine covers who have brand new faces and have had plastic surgery, while I myself have never had any surgery? I am an artist, and I have the ability and the free will to choose the way the world will envision me."
Lady Gaga is pretty averse to Hollywood culture in general: "I put my toe in that water, and it was a Kegel-exercise vaginal reaction where I clenched and had to retract immediately."

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who plays Mitchell on the hit ABC show, revealed that an upcoming episode will center around a Lady Gaga concert.
"Mitchell, my character, wants to go to the Lady Gaga concert, and Cameron is supposed to go with me but he's sick in bed and he's expecting me to stay home and take care of him," he toldRegis Philbin and Kelly Ripa. "And so I kind of, maybe, drug him a little bit so I can sneak out and go to the concert."
It turns out that Modern Family's admiration of the pop star is mutual. Ferguson said the cast found out Gaga is a big fan of the show when she approached producers about appearing in an episode.
"Gaga reached out and she wanted to do something with the show but it's like, how do you incorporate Lady Gaga into Modern Family?"
Hopefully the show's writers can think of some appropriately fabulous plot point for the pop star
Because she doesn't hear her songs in enough Country Western bars and she's dissatisfied with only being Elton freaking John's son's godmother AND because she feels there aren't enough headlines spawned from the sheer mention of her name, Lady Gaga did the logical thing and created a country version of her smash hit "Born This Way" (see: ripoff of "Express Yourself"). Personally, I've disliked "Born This Way" since the song hit the Grammy stage in a mess of dinosaur egg yolk and giant latex condom scraps and I've never been a fan of country music so the combination of the two is like a set of rhinestone-and-steak-encrusted fingernails on a Versace chalkboard (a.k.a. pretentiously useless and still impossible to listen to). The one good thing is that Gaga is donating the proceeds from the sale of this new version to the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), but you know what's better? How about you skip the awful song and donate your dollar to the organization directly instead? It's that bad.

Lady GaGa gave the audience at a drag queen revue a shock on Saturday, March 12, after storming on stage and performing while her new track "Born This Way" was blasting out across the club.
The "Poker Face" superstar had played a sold-out gig at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky and many of her fans carried on the party by hitting a drag club after the concert ended. But GaGa had no intention of stopping performing and joined a transvestite onstage for a rousing rendition of her latest hit single.
The crowd chanted along with the star while she gyrated with her pal, shouting the song's lyrics, "Don't be a drag, just be a queen." The singer then had to be saved by security as she did a stage dive into the adoring crowd, before strutting off the stage.
Lady GaGa has urged her legions of fans to buy a special bracelet launched to raise funds for those affected by the Japanese tsunami. Over 20 countries in the Pacific Rim were put on high alert on Friday, March 11, after a massive 8.9-magnitude tremor caused a tidal wave which devastated Japan.
A raft of celebrities have sent their condolences to those who have lost family members in the disaster, and now the "Poker Face" hitmaker is asking fans to donate $5 or more to the relief effort by buying a bracelet via her website.
"Lady GaGa designed a 'We Pray For Japan' prayer bracelet, buy yours now for $5 in the web store and all proceeds go to Japan tsunami relief," a post on the site reads.
Japanese star Yoko Ono and "Star Trek" actor George Takei have also asked for fans' help in raising money for the cause.
Lady GaGa has sparked a war with concert photographers after demanding they give up the rights to their shots. The pioneering pop star has started asking snappers to sign release forms before admitting them to gigs, demanding they surrender their copyright of the images they take while she's onstage. Website TBD.com went public with the release form given to their photographer Jay Westcott on Friday, March 4, which clearly states his shots will become the property of GaGa. Revered concert photographer and property lawyer David Atlas tells Rolling Stone magazine, "It's utterly disrespectful of the time, the effort and the creativity of the photographer. I think it's some misguided need to control the images that are out there, but she has so little control over those images." And veteran concert snapper Tim Mosenfelder tells the publication, "These artists blow up, and depending on their personality and the management they surround themselves with, they end up with a result like this. There are artists out there who are pretty fair with the press. For example, Justin Bieber is very receptive to allowing the press to cover his performances, and he's blown up." The release form published by TBD.com is one of two GaGa hands out to photographers - a second version does not demand the photographer to sign over their copyright. According to Atlas, the less restrictive version is intended for larger publications. He adds, "Typically the person who has the least leverage gets the worst release... The people who get paid $125 to hang out for four hours at a concert have to sign this release. So on top of getting paid very little, they have no ongoing revenue stream from these photos whatsoever."
Lady GaGa broke down in tears during a concert on Thursday, March 3 after performing an emotional rendition of her song "Born This Way" with a 10-year-old fan. The pop star last month invited Maria Aragon to join her on tour as she was so impressed with a YouTube clip of the little girl singing the track. The "Poker Face" hitmaker kept her word when her tour touched down in Aragon's native Canada and called her young fan onstage during a show in Toronto on Thursday night. GaGa lifted Aragon onto her lap as she sat at a piano, and the two then performed a duet of "Born This Way", with GaGa visibly moved during the song. After Aragon thanked the crowd and left the stage, Gaga could be seen weeping and taking time to compose herself before continuing the concert. She later took to her Twitter.com blog to post a picture of herself wearing a t-shirt with Aragon's face on as she stood next to the girl backstage. Gaga writes, "Myself +10 year old Lady Maria of Winnipeg. She signed my t-shirt, she ate my heart, just like you." After the show, Aragon said, "Lady GaGa is really big and she's so amazing. Being supported how she was supported up there made me feel really great."
After the success of her collaboration with Thierry Mugler at Paris Men's Fashion Week in January, Lady GaGa once again joins forces with the fashion designer to preview another song from her upcoming studio album "Born This Way". While the previous show didn't see GaGa at all, this upcoming one will debut her as a runway model. "I'm making my debut as a runway model, walking in the MUGLER PARIS FASHIONSHOW 3/2. I directed the show music, previewing Government Hooker," GaGa announced the news to her Little Monsters on Twitter. She will become one of the models for the fashion house's women's wear collection. This preview will lead to a series of promotional efforts for the new album which is coming out across United States on May 23. She recently taped a special Monster Ball documentary at Madison Square Garden for HBO which will air it on May 7, and is expected to do many other promo appearances.
Lady GaGa has made chart history in Britain after becoming the first artist to reach platinum status for a downloaded album. GaGa's "The Fame" has sold a total of 2.5 million copies in the U.K. and, on Monday, February 28, it set a new record by topping the 300,000 downloads mark. Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot says, "In setting this latest landmark, Lady Gaga has further cemented her position in the annals of pop music history. Lady Gaga is the kind of artist who is constantly striving to break new ground and she has done that yet again for album downloads." GaGa has also scored a history on iTunes. "Born This Way" from her new album of the same name became the fastest selling single in iTunes for selling more than one million copies worldwide.
Pop star Lady GaGa waited until she turned 17 before losing her virginity - but she only learned to enjoy sex after falling in love. The "Bad Romance" hitmaker's first intimate encounters with men were "absolutely terrible" and she admits it took a monogamous relationship with her boyfriend Luc Carl to change her mind about sex. She tells Britain's Grazia magazine, "I didn't lose my virginity until I was 17. But I have to say, even then I wasn't ready and it was an absolutely terrible experience. It wasn't good at all. I have never not had safe sex, I have always asked a guy to be tested and to use protection, that was always my rule. Otherwise you're playing Russian Roulette." "But I never actually enjoyed sex until two years ago with (Carl)... It was a proper monogamous relationship in which I felt free enough to trust and I had enough self love. Sex is the ultimate expression of vulnerability and, for me, it was important to know that I was in a proper relationship so it was sex as a source of love and nothing else."
